Here’s a simple lead generation technique that works well not only to produce leads, but to generate quality content and traffic to your website, page, or blog.
We all know the importance of generating traffic on the web. If you’re serious about making sales in whatever business you’re in, you want more, and NEED MORE Traffic. It’s the simple truth. There are times when you journey on the Internet is frustrating, there are times when it’s thrilling.
I can tell you from experience, the frustration of building a website that is beautiful, but yet nobody really comes to it. It’s disheartening to pour your time, sweat, and money into something that just doesn’t work. Day after day you wait for the big payback that never comes.
Using this technique, you will begin to see traffic and leads start trickling into your business, sometimes in as little as a day or two. This will give you confidence and encourage you to do more of the same. As you start putting the puzzle pieces together and learn how to start getting a trickle of traffic to a website, your mind starts going toward how to turn that trickle of traffic into fresh qualified leads who are eager to speak with you, and see you as the expert solution provider they are looking for.
Positioning yourself within any industry is a process of knowing the simple steps you must take to:
- Target an audience that wants or needs what you’re offering.
- Stake your territory (where most folks get stuck because of a liack of skills or confidence). They don’t realize that the Internet is almost infinatly large and multidimensional. You can find hungry buyers if you learn where and how to look.
- Build your voice. Be yourself and “attract” likeminded folks to you, your website, and your business.
- Make an offer. This is not “selling”. Making an offer is getting people to read your web content and to agree with what you’re saying (offering).
- Have people ask for more information. (Opt in to your list).
- Proper follow up. (Nurturing your leads).
So what’s the technique? You’re probably asking yourself. The technique is pretty simple. We come up with an idea that drives us, is a passion for us, and we write about it with as much passion and vigour as we can. We attract “likeminded” folks to us via the search engines, and then we send them to a keyword optimized lead capture page so they can join our list and receive communication from us.
Your going to want a simple optimizable lead capture page. Optimizable means you can change the content, metatags, title tags, of a specific webpage to suit your needs. I know there are many aspects of running a successful business online or off. But for those who run their businesses solely online (like me) effective lead generation is so important to your success that I don’t think there is anything else the new marketer should focus on, until they’re getting a steady flow of leads.
In my own opinion, MLMers and network marketing professionals should not even join a network marketing company until they’re comfortable generating leads and talking to people on the phone.
Why do I think this way?
Because, in the beginning of your business it’s hard enough to turn a profit, running your business cheaply online. The added pressure of having to “sell” an opportunity often confuses the new network marketer and causes them to lose focus on what the task at hand really is. . . generating quality leads for no or very little money. For the network marketer who spends 1 dollar a day promoting their business and returns 10 dollars a day to their business can be considered successful.
This is the objective when you’re starting out. Return money on your investment first, then scale your business forward toward success as you build the skills you need to always bring a return on your investment.
Because your ability to generate leads and lead conversion are the cornerstones of a successful MLM business.
What’s the other piece of this puzzle? If you said proper training and mentoring others to replicate your success you’d be right.
People join others in their network marketing business based on the knowledge, or the assumption that the person doing the recruiting will help the new recruit replicate the same success they are having in their own business. Ask yourself: if you were actually going to join a network company, would you join under someone who knows what they’re doing? Or would you join the brand new representative? You know the answer to that.
But how do you train new distributers to replicate your success? You have to offer people a standardized training that offers them the flexibility to learn without your needing to teach them. The standardized training must be useful, easily customizable to the new rep’s skill set and knowledge, and must be straight forward enough for the new person to get started and see results without a whole bunch of prior knowledge.
This is where the term scalability comes in. . . you have to scale your business, scale your training, and scale your organization in order to reap the rewards of MLM success. The best training education I’ve ever found for this, I found at Renegade University. I forget who said it, “nothing happens until somebody sells something.” I have to disagree, nothing happens until you generate a lead. That’s the true test. The lead is the seed that drives sales and marketing; careers are won and lost on your ability to generate a lead. But not for the most obvious reason.
I started my career in sales door-to-door, cold calling, real belly to belly old school style sales.
I was selling lawn care, so basically you could say I was a shit-salesman. I absolutely sucked at it. I hated knocking doors, making telemarketing calls to strangers, there was a point where I seriously questioned my sanity. One day the regular inquiry rep got sick and there was nobody to cover his territory for the day, my boss handed me about 10 leads and appointments. There was something about holding those leads in my hand that totally changed the way I thought about my prospects.
I closed 7 out of 10 of those leads that day, and within the week I closed another account from those 10 leads. I felt comfortable talking to those folks, I felt like I belonged, I felt like I was doing them a service rather than pitching them on something they wouldn’t want, or need. Remember I was selling fertilizer and weed-spray. I just kept wondering how I could get that rep. who was sick to stay away. Or get my boss to give me a couple leads everyday. There was no way I could go back to punding cold doors, or picking up that 100 pound telephone.
I soon realized that thether you have leads or not, the game doesn’t change, you’re still in sales; but sales with a lead in your hand versus cold-calling, knocking doors, etc. changes your perception of who and what you are. Rather than being a nusance, you’re an invited guest. At least that’s how I’ve done it. Even though I’m no longer a fertilizer “salesman” we’re all in sales.
Being an invited guest changes your mindset, and allows you to help your prospect find and qualify their needs prior to you ever saying one word to them. It’s kind of like a greased slide that keeps going down, and you keep going faster and faster until there’s hardly any friction between the lead generation system and the sales process. They work synergistically together, qualifying, pre-selling, and positioning you as an expert consultant rather than the starving salesman.
Being the consultant brings clients and sales to you, being the salesman puts you in the position to chase. I know which position I’d rather be in.
Running a business online isn’t that much different than selling lawn care door-to-door. For me, it’s easier in fact, I don’t talk to people until they’ve qualified for my time and energy. If someone wants to talk to me they’ll figure out a way to get ahold of me. This is a far cry for selling shit, and I love it.

If you’ve been in an MLM business for any length of time you’ve wondered about network marketing prospecting and effective lead generation. How do you get started setting up your own lead funnel to pump out qualified leads for your business?
This is something I had a hard time putting my head around when I first got online and started trying to figure out how I was going to keep my business afloat. I was not trained in business, I was a firefighter by trade.
The fact was I was working really hard to earn money, but I wasn’t getting leads flowing to me day after day like I wanted. I got frustrated and I wanted to figure out how these online “Gurus” were doing it for their businesses.
But that’s where I got stuck. I didn’t have the kind of money to pay these guys upwards of $2000 bucks for some “system” that wasn’t even guaranteed to work.
So I really started applying myself to figuring out how to produce traffic to my websites, by getting inpointing links, using social networking sites, and building a network of people who would critique my work, give me advice, and let me know if there was something I could improve.
The important thing was to keep the entire system as low cost, or free, if possible (at least until I was making a decent profit and could reinvest in my business). I think building a business this way builds a huge amount of self-respect and independence for the marketer because you’ve truely done it yourself (or at least I did). I’ve yet to find a cookie-cutter approach to business. Yes business principles apply but in reality you have to build a business that works for you, based on what’s important to you and your goals.
It took me awhile to really figure out the synergy of building a great marketing funnel to generate MLM leads, but I’ve done it. Things are much easier now once I figure dout how to apply a systematic process to building a marketing machine. By machine I’m not talking about something that any total idiot could do, by machine I mean really getting into marketing myself and my content online and putting it all together in a way that makes sense, and a way that works well for the people I teach how to do the same thing.
And that’s the real acid test whether a “system” works or not is whether it can by replicated by someone else. If someone else can take the same elements of a system and put them together in their own unique way, and still get amazing results I know the system works.

Having a good system in place allows the freedom for you to target specific markets in order to bring in leads for your business, and then also the freedome to scale your business forward to allow for growth.

There is a lot of crap on the Internet. This is a double edged sword because if you can build a nice looking blog (like this one), lead generation becomes much easier. The fact is, that this isn’t a strategy that works overnight, but you can make it work quickly for you without being a “sleezeball” used-car salesman.
Using a blog as your prospecting tool is very powerful, especially when you start combining social media marketing, replicated websites, and various “white-hat” SEO/SEM (search engine optimization) that works to drive your content up the search engines online. Within three months I have changed the face of my business, automated the entire process, and started generating leads from various sources.
Running my business this way has changed my life, made it so much easier, and helped me build a network of friends that help me build my business. This is true synergy in business. The blog is the hub of your enitre prospecting system. It drives leads, it answers questions, it allows people with similar interests to ask me questions, and maybe most importantly it allows people to get to know me before they ever make contact.

Many people don’t know how to get started with network marketing and lead generation when they first start a business. They don’t know how to make their content stand out in a crowded marketplace, they don’t know how to link their content together in a big web of sticky content.
That’s how I see the content you produce in oreder to generate leads. When you do it right you don’t even raise people’s hackles, they just simply read what you have to say and it makes sense. There’s really no “selling” involved in creating content that gets people to take action. It’s making sense and appealing to folks who are searching for a solution to their problems.
For me, I’ve chosen a certain market to speek to, someone else might take a different market, or a section of my market to target. That’s fine with me. I can’t speak to everyone. I can only work with so many people at once, and I want people to get the help they need in their network marketing business. Generating leads is the easiest approach to making a profit in your business, and as you bring more cashflow into your business, and reinvest it the quicker your business grows and the simpler it gets.
But you have to learn lead generation first. There are many different roads you can take, you can use splash pages, blogs, comment marketing, SEO, social networking, etc. THere are so many roads you can take to reach your ultimate goal that’s it’s easy to get a little confused. I try to teach the folks I’m working with to take it slow, learn how to attract the right people to you and your business, by speaking well, writing well, and taking a consultitive approach to lead generation.
I also encourage my team to build their businesses one aspect at a time, branching out when they feel comfortable and they are seeing results from their marketing activities. This is important because they don’t get freaked out by a huge expense right up front. They can work slowly ”attracting” people to them and their content online, talking to people, having other people make the first move. It’s really important, to the new marketer’s self-confidence to see success early in the process.

Generating the perfect network marketing leads is not an easy process. There is a lot of thinking, planning and optimization that goes into generating a lead funnel that works to pump out leads day and night, 24 X 7.
